This play is about two teenage lads, Zac and Gabba, who roll people for
their phones, IPads and laptops at the railway station or outside the
school. Their last robbery is more violent than usual.
SETTING
Suburban laneway beside
train line.
CHARACTERS - 2 MALE
ZAC: 16. Loud, brash,
confident, street-smart. Thief, thug, leader. Expects GABBA to follow orders.
Wears loose jeans, hoodie, phone, over-sized headphones, backpack.
GABBA: 15. Loud,
under-confident, inarticulate. Follows ZAC’s instructions Wears loose jeans,
hoodie, phone, over-sized headphones, backpack.
Uses ‘f’ instead of ‘th’ -e.g. ‘fousand’ not ‘thousand’. Loves and
understands technology but not much else.
BOY (VOICE): 10-13. Off-stage only.
MAN (VOICE): Any age. Off-stage only.

Three voices: ZAC, GABBA and BOY. ZAC and GABBA’s backs visible just off-stage.
Trains rattle by at intervals.
BOY:
(off) No!
ZAC:
(off) Come on, kid! Gimme the fuckin’
phone!
BOY:
(off) No! It’s new!
GABBA:
(off) Yeah! Give us your fuckin’
phone now!
BOY:
(off) No! It’s my phone! Get off me!
ZAC:
(off) Gimme your fuckin’ phone or
I’ll smash your head in!
BOY:
(off, tearful) Nooooo! Pleeeease!
GABBA steps backwards
onto stage as he chants, then disappears Off.
GABBA:
(off) Yeah! (chanting) Give us your fuckin’ phone! Give us your fuckin’ phone!
Give us your fuckin’ phone
ZAC:
(off) Shut up, Gabba!
GABBA:
(off, quieter) Yeah. Sorry, Zac.
ZAC:
(off) Don’t say my fuckin’ name,
dickhead!
GABBA:
(off, quiet) Sorry, Zac.
ZAC’s back is visible,
just off-stage, then disappears Off..
ZAC:
(off) Hold his arms while I get the
phone.
BOY:
(off) Nooooo! Let me go! Heeeelp!
Somebody help m... (muffled, hand over
mouth)
ZAC: (off) Shut up, you little
whiner, or you won’t be walkin’ anywhere.
GABBA:
(off) Yeah! Shut up you little
weener!
ZAC:
(off) Got it! Grab his baby backpack
and let’s fuck off!
GABBA:
(off) Got it!
ZAC and GABBA rush
backwards onstage.
